Junction Activation of CdTe/CdS Solar Cell Using MgCl 2

A comparative study of CdTe/CdS junction activation using MgCl 2 and CdCl 2 is discussed. V oc , J sc , FF and efficiency of the devices were comparable in both cases indicating that CdCl 2 can be avoided in the processing of CdTe solar cells. From a survey of the device parameters of small area devices at different locations of the large substrate it was observed that MgCl 2 ; activation results in higher spatial uniformity. Extent of S diffusion was significantly higher for CdCl 2 activated devices at the same conditions., indicating that either the recrystallization process or the grain boundary passivation is distinct for both cases.
