Degree-days for variable base temperatures

A method developed for the estimation of degree-days above or below any base temperature is described. Long-term hourly SOLMET data for nine U.S. locations are used to test the major assumptions employed. Although some disagreement is noted, the method is also presented, and this simplification is shown to result in comparable accuracy to the original method.
