Design of flexible curved sensor array for wind pressure monitoring of train bogie

Abstract This paper proposes a flexible curved sensor array (FCSA) for wind pressure monitoring on train bogies. The fabricated FCSA made of composite conductive materials integrates strain and pressure sensing modules. The preparation ratio and internal conductive structure of the sensor are optimized to improve its strain detection precision and sensitivity. The accuracy of wind pressure monitoring data reaches 97 %, which is higher than current sensors. Experimental results show that the composite with hybrid filler of 1.75 wt % carbon black (CB) exhibits highly strain sensitive characteristics of good linearity, high accuracy, excellent stretchability (>50 %), high gauge factor (GF ∼10.2) and excellent durability over 500 stretching-releasing cycles under 30N. The designed FCSA demonstrates the practicality and effectiveness for wind pressure detection of train bogie, and provides a potential option for structural health monitoring (SHM) under large deformation.
