Preliminary investigation on bank properties and sediment source in Yellow River Ningmeng River Reach

The Yellow River Ningmeng River Reach,as one of the major sediment source areas in the Yellow River,is important in theYellow River sediment study. Combing field data and monitoring in the reach,sediment properties of several typical reaches is studied through the analyses of channel morphology,bank composition,bank erosion and sediment sources. The result shows that the bank sediment composition of the Yellow River Ningmeng River Reach varies little,for most part of the reach located on the alluvial plain. But the compositions of the banks near the tributaries are relatively complex,influenced largely by tributary sediment inflow. The channel swings violently and the bank failure takes place frequently. The aeolian sand,tributary sediment and bank failure greatly contribute to the high sediment input to the Yellow River.
