Postural Assessment System to Support in the Process of Clinical Decision-Making

2013
Considering that the most of methods currently used by health professionals do not adopt an appropriate quantization strategy, there is some subjectivity in the data obtained through observational assessment. Likewise, the lack of criteria with a logical organization of the analyzed parameters complicates the repeatability of the procedure, sometimes compromising the diagnosis definition and treatment choice. However, the use of expert systems that can support the systematization of decision making process can contribute significantly to the professional in their practice and the student in their knowledge. In a complementary way, the use of tools involving computerized biophotogrammetry is able to provide reliable extraction of metrics in order to feed such an expert system, and thus can assist the health professional on the decision-making and standardizing of evaluations. Thus, this paper describes the development of a postural assessment system for the diagnosis, which uses computerized biophotogrammetry tools and expert systems. This method has been quite promising, assisting health professionals on the decision-making and standardizing of evaluations.
