Estudio métrico de citación e interacción web de la herramienta BisoGenet para el análisis en Bioinformatica y Biología de sistemas

2016
INTRODUCTION: BisoGenet is a bioinformatics tool for processing and integrating biological data and their interpretation as networks of biological entities and their interaction. It was developed at the CIGB and published in 2010 in the journal BMC Bioinformatics. It comprises a client application running on the Cytoscape platform for visualizing molecular interactions. PURPOSE: To evaluate the impact of Bisogenet by analyzing the citing literature and the use of its client application through webmetrics. METHODOLOGY: The publications citing Bisogenet in Scopus were analyzed in VOS viewer 1.6.4 by: journals and articles co-citation networks; journal and countries by bibliographic coupling; terms, author and indexing keywords by co-occurrence analysis, and web interaction and the geographic distribution of interacting institutions. RESULTS: Bisogenet received 74 citations in Scopus, 68 of them scientific articles, with 12 citations a year in average in high impact journals of the PLoS, Nature Group and BMC consortia (citation range: 1-50). TThe tool was mainly used to visualize networs of genes related to cellular growth, miRNA and cancer, among others. The most extense bibliographic coupling network was centered on the PLoS One journal, and its download and usage statistics was preferentially located in US and China, these two countries together with India centering the collaboration. CONCLUSIONS: The impact of the Bisogenet was characterized by citation and webmetrics analysis.
