Analysis of ANPCI & DCMLI fed to PMSM Drive for Electric Vehicles

2020
The Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) are replacing the Induction Motors in all high AC drive applications and especially in the Electric Vehicles (EVs). This is due to the potential of PMSMs in providing high efficiency as well as high torque to current ratio and large power to weight ratio. The inverter plays a very significant role in converting the DC to AC from the vehicle's battery to the PMSM, which drives the vehicle's propulsion system. They also play an important role in capturing the energy during regenerative braking. Multilevel inverters give better voltage and current outputs compared to conventional two-level inverters. In this paper Active Neutral Point Clamped (ANPC) and Diode Clamped Multilevel Inverter (DCMI) fed to PMSM drive are compared and can be used for EVs applications. The ANPC inverter gives better output compared to DCML Inverter.
