GC-MS Analysis of Oenanthe virgata Poiret (Apiaceae) from Algeria

The essential oil of fresh aerial part of Oenanthe virgata Poiret (Apiaceae), obtained by hydrodistillation in a Clevenger-type apparatus, was GC-MS analyzed. Twenty one compounds were characterized representing 96.7 % of the essential oil with linalool (29.9 %), α-phellandrene (13.3 %), (E) β-farnesene (12.2 %), limonene (11.9 %), hydroxycitronellal (6.8 %) and thymol (5.7 %) as the major components.
