COMPUTER INTEGRATED INFORMATION MODEL FOR KNOWLEDGE ACQUISITION

1988
A model is proposed for computer integrated information (CII) acquisition. This model offers three new techniques; i) the integration of methods and procedures of information technology, information science, strategic management, and systems engineering; ii) the integration of online database searching together with electronic network searching; and iii) the integration of a formalised decision process that eventually can be made into an expert system. An operational model is called a CII Centre. The flow of information from an originator of a question to the centre, where the question is separated for database and network searching, and back to the originator is discussed in terms of the strategic decisions that must be made. The phases for the development of a CII Centre based on the model are presented together with an indication of how the model can be verified. A CII Centre is currently under development to service the fields of marine science and technology or ocean engineering.
