Impact of ion-quasistatic broadening on the determination of the electron density in a laser-induced plasma from line self-reversal

2009
Combining electron-impact and ion-quasistatic broadening, the resulting Griem spectral line profile was used to determine electron density and approximate electron temperature at a moment in the early phase of a laser-induced plasma of aluminium from the asymmetrically self-reversed resonance line Al 3961 A. The obtained results show that by using a Lorentz profile instead of the Griem profile or omitting the ion correlation effects in the formulation of the line profile, the deduced parameters, in particular the electron density, are significantly affected.
