Fraipontite from Wensleydale, North Yorkshire

1992
SUMMARY The rare zinc-rich kaolinite – serpentine group mineral fraipontite has been found in dump material derived from workings on the Virgin Moss Vein in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire. The mineral is interpreted as the product of supergene reaction between sphalerite, and aluminium and silica-rich ground-water derived from shale and chert wall-rocks.
