Comparative efficacy of two methods of local analgesia for cow bull castration.

2019
The present study was undertaken on twelve (12) bovines for castration. All animals were treated with inj. Tolfenamic acid as pre-emptive analgesia. The animals were randomly divided into two groups. In Group l, ring block was performed at the neck of scrotum using 2% Lignocaine hcl, whereas in Group II, linear infiltration of 2% Lignocaine hcl was undertaken on spermatic cord where jaws of burdizzo castrator were applied. To evaluate the efficacy of these two methods assessment of analgesia, clinico-physiological and biochemical parameters were studied. It was concluded that local analgesia undertaken around spermatic cord was superior as compared to ring block.
