Laser integrated modulator module for uncooled, 10 Gbit/s

The first uncooled 10 Gbit/s laser integrated electroabsorption modulator module for long-reach data transmission at 1550 nm is presented. With a simple control algorithm, a constant modulated output power of 1 dBm and 10 Gbit/s data transmission with less than 1 dB dispersion power penalty over 1600 ps/nm singlemode fibre are achieved from 0 to 70°C.
