Perpendicular anisotropy and an effective demagnetization factor of Ni films
1992
A model of the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) of a ferromagnetic film of thickness D is developed. The film consists of thin cylindrical grains of diameter d. The model is used to calculate the PMA (represented by the effective demagnetization factor N eff ), the magnetization curves, and the FMR frequency. Thin Ni films with grain sizes d D were investigated to verify the assumptions of the present model and the experimental results were also used to identify various contributions to the PMA (the magnetostriction contribution, N eff )
