HANDOVER PROTOCOLS FOR FUTURE ROAD-TO-VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS

2001
Handover protocols for future road-to-vehicle communications systems are proposed in this paper. The radio level handover protocol (RLHP) maintains the continuity of applications over a communication area consisting of multiple radio zones by establishing a radio link at each zone. The media access control level handover protocol (MLHP) maintains the continuity of data transmissions over multiple radio zones by transferring received and remaining data between the base stations located along the roadside area. In this paper, handover protocols for both RLHP and MLHP are discussed and their performance is evaluated by computer simulation.
