The ionization energy of 2,8-dichlorodibenzo-p-dioxin by resonance-enhanced two-photon ionization

Abstract The adiabatic ionization energy (IE) of 2,8-dichlorodibenzo- p -dioxin is measured using the method of resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) combined with time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOFMS), yielding a value of 7.802(4)eV. This value is compared with previous theoretical results from the literature. Possible consequences for the detection of higher chlorinated ibenzo- p -dioxins with the method of one-color two-photon ionization are discussed.
