Simulations- und Flugversuche über Flugeigenschaften von Hyperschall-Flugzeugen

1995
Lifting hypersonic vehicles equipped with air breathing engines have new and specific flying qualities. This paper deals with problems of long term dynamics arid their evaluation by simulation and flight tests. First, abilities of the SR-71 and the generic hypersonic simulator operated by NASA Dryden are described. Then flight mechanics evaluations are considered, which show how to alter specifically the level of stability for long-term dynamics eigenvalues. The results of the simulation evaluations deal with flying quality ratings on aperiodic phugoid and height mode instabilities. Additional results of flight tests for pilot ratings and dynamic aircraft reactions are presented. These results also include considerations on similarities of long-term dynamics in supersonic and in hypersonic flight
