Cellular Electrophysiology and Electrocardiography

2016
The heartbeat is a biological process, which consists of an electrical phenomenon essential to the cardiac cycle. Knowledge of the physiology of the cardiac action potential and its effects on the heart provides valuable information to help understand a wide range of cardiac pathologies and its manifestation through the electrocardiogram. The basic principles of normal cellular electrophysiology changes and its relationship to electrocardiography are reviewed in this chapter.
