MODELLING TRANSITION FOR THE DESIGN OFMODERN AXIAL TURBOMACHINES

The aim of this paper is to investigate whether or not a correlation-based
transition model can be used for the design of multistage turbomachinery components. To
this end, two components, a low-pressure turbine and an axial compressor, are computed
at design and o�-design conditions. The results of the steady computations are compared
with experimental data in terms of overall performance and transition occurrence. In all
cases, the agreement between the measurements and the computations is good, meaning
that the computational setup can be used in a multistage turbomachinery context.
