Preliminary analysis of the status of rock glaciers using SAR images

The main objective of this work is to analyze the displacements occurred in rock glaciers through interferometric techniques. The area of interest is located in “Cuenca de la Laguna Blanca”, San Juan province, Argentina. From the available glaciers, “Caballito” glacier was chosen as a witness case to prove the methodology. The execution of the work was performed by processing 28 COSMO-Skymed SAR scenes acquired in both ascending and descending orbits. The obtained results are used to classify the status of the ice bodies in relation to their actual activity; and to define the scenes acquisition requirements oriented to the study of the dynamic of rock glaciers.
