Researching the characteristics of the magnetoelectric position sensor for automotive application

The paper is devoted to the study of magnetoelectric crankshaft position sensor based on magnetostrictive-piezoelectric layered material of macro fiber composite - Metglas composition. The main advantages of such a sensor are smaller size and weight. Macro fiber composite active length was of 40 mm, active width was of 5 mm; Metglas length was of 40 mm, the width was of 7 mm; the thickness of magnetoelectric layered structure consisting of the macro fiber composite plus 3 layers of Metglas was of 0.37 mm. The designed crankshaft position sensor showed the output peak voltage pulse about 1.5 V this result allows to use proposed sensor in the control system of the car.
