Harmful Algal Blooms and Zooplankton community

2016
The book deals with prevalence of algal blooms along the coastal waters of south west coast of India (Arabian Sea) and associated zooplankton community. In situ observations during summer monsoon, a period conducive for algal blooms in the region were analyzed for four years. Various bloom incidences of diatoms, dinoflagellates, blue green algae and raphidophytes are discussed along with associated zooplankton community. The possible reasons for buildup of coastal blooms through enhanced nutrient input resulting from coastal upwelling as well as reduced zooplankton grazing are highlighted.
