ABSOLUTE CONFIGURATION AND CIRCULAR DICHROISM OF S-o-METHOXYPHENYL-S-PHENYLSULFIMIDES AND SULFOXIMIDES

(−)-S-o-methoxyphenyl-S-phenylsulfimides (1,3–6) exhibited negative Cotton effects around 232 and 283 nm, which correspond to (S)-configuration, like the analogous (S)-(−)-S-o-methoxyphenyl S-p-tolyl sulfoxide(2). The corresponding sulfoximides (7,8) show small Cotton effects near 272 and 240 nm. The observed solvent effects were ascribed to solvation.
