Behavior ofHysteresis inMagnetostrictive Torque Sensors

1991
The hysteresis behaviorof magnetostrictive torquesensors was investigated. Variouskinds of steel were applied to driving shafts withsets of parallel grooves. Singlemagnetostrictive output(modeI,IIoutput) obtainedfrom tensileand compressive stress, and differentialoutputobtained from differentiated mode I,II output, were observed. The mode I,II outputwas nonlinearand asymmetric; however, the differ¬ entialoutputwas linearand symmetric. It was found that mode I,II outputcharacteristics may be classifiedaccording to the shaft materialand heat treatment, and that the hystereticbehavior of the differ¬ entialoutputcan be predicted byassuming combinationsof thesetypesof characteristics.
