The Salt Stress Signal Transduction Pathway in Plants

2007
The study on salt tolerance in plants is very much importance. The salt stress signal transduction pathway has been the hot spot in the study of salt tolerance in plants in recent years.Several salt stress signal transduction pathway in plants have been elucidated such as the MAPK(mitogen-activated protein kinase) signal pathway in yeast and plants, the SOS(salt overly sensitive) pathway in Arabidopsis to alleviate ion stress and the signal pathway involved by other protein kinases including CDPK(calcium-dependent and calmodulin-independent protein kinase),RPK(receptor like protein kinase),GSK/shaggy(glycogen synthase kinase) and histidine kinase. Therefore, the salt stress in plants is a very complex network which consists of many kinds of signal molecules. Many transgenic experiments demonstrate that some components in the signaling transduction can improve salt stress in plants. It is the premise and basis of improving salt tolerance in plants to study the salt stress signal transduction pathway in plants deeply.
