High-temperature reaction of TiO/sub 2/ with Sm/sub 2/O/sub 3/

1987
The authors have examined the reactions of TiO/sub 2/ with Sm/sub 2/O/sub 3/ at 900-1800/sup 0/C by heating specimens in air in accordance with the temperature followed by quenching in ice water. The phase compositions were determined in air with a diffractometer. The phase diagram shows that the compounds Sm/sub 2/Ti/sub 2/O/sub 7/ and Sm/sub 2/TiO/sub 5/ occur. The TiO/sub 2/-Sm/sub 2/O/sub 3/ phase diagram has some features commonly found in titanate systems containing REE whose ionic radii are less than or greater than that of samarium.
