Inadequate vision is a cause of traffic accidents. Also, people with perfectly adequate daylight vision, at night, may become inadequate to the driving task. This article reviews certain facts about vision, giving definitions of visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and night vision. Concluding remarks describe what happens to a person's vision as he grows older. Cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal disorders are the most common causes of visual field loss--and they are all commonly associated with aging.
