The clinical analysis on 243 cases of ocular trauma

Objective To analyse the clinical characteristics of patients with ocular trauma. Methods The data of 248 eyes of 243 patients with ocular trauma were analyzed retrospectively. The variables included gender, age, injury causes, types of trauma and visual acuity before and after treatment. Results Among the 243 cases, 200 (82.30%) cases were males and 43 cases (17.70%) were females. There were 122 (49.19%) right eyes, 126 (50.81%) left eyes and among them 5 (2.01%)cases with binocular injuries. The ages range was 7-77 years, mean age was (44.61±13.55) years. The high-risk age group was 18-59 years with a total number of 206 (84.77%) cases. The main cause of ocular trauma was occupational injury (75.72%). After therapy, the visual acuity was improvement in 157 cases (63.31%), no change was in 76 cases (30.64%), and diminution in 15 cases (6.05%). The rate of blindness (≤0.05) after treatment was 32.66%. Conclusion The high-risk age group of ocular trauma is young adult, 18-59 years. Main causes of injury are occupational injuries.
