Nonspecies-specific growth factor from cerebral ganglia of Mytilus edulis
1988
Abstract Incorporation of 3 H-leucine into the macromolecular fraction of dissociated cell suspensions of mussel mantle edges is increased by cerebral ganglia extracts. Mytilus edulis ganglia extracts significantly increased the 3 H-leucine incorporation rate in dissociated mantle edges from Ruditapes philippinarum, Crassostrea gigas , and Pecten maximus . All the cellular responses are dose-dependent. Possible applications of bivalve growth control in shellfish nursery or hatchery facilities are proposed.
