Insulin and Other Hypoglycemic Drugs

2017
Abstract The Side Effects of Drugs Annuals are yearly reviews of literature that has been published on the adverse effects of drugs. The Side Effects of Drugs Annuals contributes to the contents of Meyler's Side Effects of Drugs: The International Encyclopedia of Adverse Drug Reactions and Interactions. This literature review includes studies, meta-analyses, and case reports on the use of alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, amylin analogs, insulin, dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists (incretin mimetics), type 2 sodium-glucose cotransporter (SGLT2) inhibitors, metformin, and sulfonylureas published from January 2016 to December 2016. Reports of euglycemic DKA with SGLT-2 inhibitor use are presented in this chapter, along with information comparing the rate of hypoglycemia with insulin glargine U-300 to other insulins. Additional data in the debate regarding the relationship between bladder cancer and TZDs are reported.
