Structure of an electrochemical reduced graphite-cobalt compound

1989
Abstract We have obtained a first stage phase in a reduced GCo compound using C 5 CoCl 2.10 as cathode in a primary lithium battery. Chemical analysis leads to the formula C 14 Co(CoCl 2 ) 0.2 (LiCl) 0.5 (NaCl) 0.09 . Intensity calculation for 00 l and hk l reflections and electron diffraction patterns proves that the crystallographic formula is about C 2 Co. Cobalt layer stacking nay be ABC structure and CoCo distance could be shorter than in pure metal. Small angle neutron scattering can probably give precise results.
