Bowtie photonic crystal with deep subwavelength mode confinement in a dielectric material

We report the design and experimental characterization of deep subwavelength optical modes (V m ∼10 −3 (λ/n si ) 3 ) in high quality factor dielectric photonic crystals (Q∼3 × 10 4 ). Our approach offers a low-loss alternative to metals for achieving extreme light concentration.
