Development of a mobile-type magnetic separator using high-Tc bulk superconductors

2004
Abstract The authors have devised an advanced, mobile-type water treatment system consisting of a membrane separator and a magnetic separator, which uses long high- T c bulk superconductors (SCs), to quickly remove phytoplankton multiplying in highly eutrophic lakes and dams. The prototype magnetic separator system was designed and fabricated. The fabricated system consists of three components; a pre-process unit, a rotating membrane separator and a magnetic separator. The capacity of the magnetic separator is 100 t/day. The water cleaning test using kaolin was conducted, displaying water cleaning power of 90% or higher. Further, most chlorophyll A and phosphorus were successfully removed in another test.
