The role of skin mesenchymal stem cells in promoting skin healing

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) is one of the most popular topics being studied in current stem cell research. More and more attention has been paid on the skin healing. It has been demonstrated that bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BM-MSCs) can promote skin healing from several aspects,such as promotion of epidermal growth and the proliferation of dermal fibroblasts,etc. Skin mesenchymal stem cells(SMSCs) and BM-MSCs are MSCs. The similarity between SMSCs and BM-MSCs are also revised. Considering the ease of acquring skin MSCs, prospective research in skin healing by SMSCs can be predicted by our current understanding and breakthroughs in BM-MSCs research. BM-MSCs are likely to be replaced by SMSCs in the future.
