Plasma-wall interactions in a reversed-field pinch

1989
Abstract The plasma-wall interaction (PWI) has been studied in the STP-3(M) reversed-field pinch (RFP), with emphasis on the enhanced PWI at the dynamo activity. An increase in the magnetic Reynolds number, resulting from discharge cleaning, is essential to the self-organization, where the dynamo plays an important role. Enhancement of the release of metal impurities at the dynamo activity is shown to be caused by sputtering due to high-energy ions or neutrals. Experimental results are discussed in comparison with implications from magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations.
