Theoretical Design of Perovskite/CdTe Four-terminal Tandem Solar Cells

2017
In high efficiency $\mathrm{CdTe}$ solar cells, a thin compact $\mathrm{CdS}$ window layer is usually required to ensure the formation of good heterojunction and to allow sufficient sunlight being absorbed by the $\mathrm{CdTe}$ , which inevitably adds to the manufacturing difficulties. Here, a four-terminal tandem solar cell with perovskite top cell and $\mathrm{CdTe}$ bottom cell is designed and simulated by wxAMPS. The Br content $(x)$ in MAPb $(\mathrm{I}_{1-x}\mathrm{Br}_{x})_{3}$ perovskite is tuned to match the bandgap of CdS/CdTe bottom cells. In such configuration, the adverse effect of thick CdS can be obviated.
