Hot gas cleanup by a confined-vortex scrubber

1980
This hot gas cleanup process uses a reactive liquid confined centrifugally in a cylindrical vortex chamber, driven by the gas flow. Liquid confinement is on the large physical scale of the stationary vortex chamber while gas-liquid transport interaction occurs on a small bubble-dominated scale in the two-phase wall shear flow. This results in efficient capture of both gaseous and small particulate contaminants by the recycled liquid. Important features, operating parameters, and some experimental data will be discussed.
