The invention relates to a coal dilatation and contraction performance evaluation method. The adhesion of coal is represented by OET, dilatation pressure generated in a dry distillation process of the coal is represented by MSP, the final contraction degree of a coke cake obtained by dry distillation coking is represented by an FCR, the initial softening and melting temperature of the coal is represented by IET, and the final curing and contraction temperature of the coal is represented by FET. According to the method, both plastic layer indexes, namely Y value and X value (national standard GB/T 479-2000), and Arnu-Audibert's dilatation indexes, namely T1, T2, T3, a value and b value (national standard GB/T 5450-1997), can be replaced, and compared with the two evaluation systems, the method has the advantages that the evaluation rule and trend are substantially consistent, and higher distinctiveness is achieved; in addition, the MSP is introduced into the evaluation system, and the index has guiding significance for evaluating the influence of the dilatation and contraction performance of the coal on the expansion pressure of a coke oven.
