Is Obesity a Disease of Stem Cells
2020
Summary Obesity disrupts physiological homeostasis and alters both systemic and local microenvironments that impact stem cell plasticity and impair regenerative capacity. We present growing evidence that reveals the bidirectionality of obesity-induced stem cell dysfunction and how the molecular changes in stem cells residing in obese environments may accelerate disease severity.
