Spectrum sensing based on channel holding time

2017
In cognitive radio, spectrum sensing methods play a vital role in the process of detecting spectrum holes for the secondary users. In this paper, a spectrum sensing based on channel holding time is proposed. We use the temporal characteristics of the primary user to examine the detection effectiveness, maximize the secondary user throughput and save energy. It is found that by optimizing sensing time the secondary user throughput can be increased under a given probability of detection, different holding time, signal to noise ratio and false alarm probability. Optimization of the sensing time is done using the human behavior based particle swarm optimization (HBPSO).
