Study of the friction and wear properties of MoS2-filled Nylon 6

1991
Abstract The friction and wear properties of MoS 2 -filled Nylon 6 were evaluated with a Timken tester. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to study the rubbed surfaces. It was found that MoS 2 is not very effective for reducing friction but causes an increase in wear. EPMA and SEM analysis revealed that the transfer film is not continuous. XPS analysis indicated that MoS 2 is oxided into MoO 3 and does not become enriched in the transfer film.
