Gated heterodyne coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering with phase-locked tunable femtosecond pulses

We propose and demonstrate heterodyne CARS chemical imaging as a novel application of phase-coherent femtosecond supercontinua. With proper timing of three phase-locked pulses this technique achieves efficient background suppression.
