Wind effects on the Normandie cable-stayed bridge: comparison between full aeroelastic model tests and quasi-steady analytical approach

A comparison of the behaviour of an aeroelastic model of the Normandie bridge and its prediction by the design calculation method of the bridge with a quasi-steady aerodynamic approach is made. A good accuracy is found between the model tests results and the design analyses. A time history calculation of the model fitted with a tuned mass damper (TMD) is also proposed and compared to the experimental results in order to predict the efficiency of this equipment to reduce the amplitudes of the horizontal vibration modes.
