Research advances on embryonic stem cell inductive differentiation and intraocular implantation

Retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration are sight-threatened diseases.While,no effective therapies are available to treat patients with these diseases.Stem cells can give rise to various cell types and are capable of regenerating themselves over multiple cell divisions,and can differentiate retinal precursor cells and all kinds of neurocytes.Implantation of embryonic stem cell origined neurocytes in the eye bring up hopes to the treatment of these diseases.In this review,we explore several studies and review the effects of different cultural conditions to the differentiation of embryonic stem cell,the coaction mechanisms between retinal precursor cells of donator and acceptor,and the development of retinal precursor cells implantation in the eyes.
