Dynamic Simulations of Cell Migration with Applications to Brain Development

2016
The early stages of embryogenesis are the most fundamental stages in the development of any multicellular organism. A plethora of cell signaling modes regulate the migration and differentiation of stem cells into various tissue types, which later merge into complete organs. Here, form-giving substances, so-called morphogens, coordinate the development of the body axis. These early stages are highly interesting from a physical standpoint, as one has to consider the interplay between cell migration on a macroscopic scale and morphogen transport on a microscopic scale.
