Dynamic Analysis of the Meridian Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

2014
This report presents a dynamic analysis of the Meridian UAV. The dynamic analysis was performed using Advanced Aircraft Analysis (AAA). The geometry of the Meridian was measured and input into AAA where aerodynamic, stability, and control characteristics of the Meridian were calculated. The aerodynamic, stability, and control characteristics presented are for a linear dynamic model trimmed at 6,000 ft, 130 kts. The linear dynamic model of the Meridian was compared to flight test data to check the accuracy of the model using simulated control responses. The response simulations were performed at trimmed conditions of 8,270 ft and 78.6 kts, 8870 ft and 95 kts, 8750 ft and 109 kts, and 8660 ft and 122 kts. Dynamic stability of the aircraft was verified. A modal analysis of the aircraft was performed and it was determined that the Meridian is stable in all modes except the phugoid.
