A proposal for cryptosystem for VSAT networks

2004
Many company users have recently used VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) system (3)-(6) for carrying highly integrated digital data service which includes computer data transfer, point -of-sa les (POS) terminal da ta , bankingtfinancial data, credit card verification and image data transmission. VSAT system is easily accessed from a wide range of locations on earth, however, it can easily be wiretapped or unauthorized persons can eavesdrop. Therefore, encryption is an efficient method for information protection in communication links which are subject to eavesdropping or wiretapping. of messages can be avoided by adopting cryptography. Recently F.L. Stein has introduced an integrated Multiple Transponder TDMA Bulk Encryption Satellite Communications system (91, which does not discuss a key distribution system or method. A VSAT network usually employs a star type network topology as shown in Fig. 3. The outbound channels from the HUB station to the VSAT stations are operated in a continuous TDM mode (Broadcasting mode) and the inbound channels from the VSAT station to the HUB station are transmitted in a random access mode (Fig. 2). As outbound data from the HUB station In this paper we discuss the cryptosystem for SATELLITE VSAT networks which employs conventional data ciphers and an identity-based key distribution method.
