Heterosis for Yield and Quality Components in Muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.)

2014
Seven parental line and 21 F1 hybrids of muskmelon obtained from half diallel were studied to investigate the extent of heterosis for yield and quality parameters. The parent P (Durgapur Sel) performing top for yield per plant and early harvest of crop. The parent P7(Punjab Sunehari) performing top for vine length, number of fruits per vine in both summer and kharifseason and for ascorbic acid in summer season. The parent P3 (Hara Madhu) performing best for T.S.S % content in fruits in both season. In order to merit F1 hybrid P^^ P4xP7 and P3XP4 were observed to be best performing F1 hybrids for weight of fruits per vine (Kg).
