Intramolecular motions in adamantane-containing polyesters as revealed by 13C nuclear magnetic relaxation☆

Abstract The authors have determined the parameters of the 13 C nuclear magnetic relaxation of the polyesters of adamantane dicarboxylic acids with 1,3-bis-(hydroxymethyl) adamantane at the frequencies 25·14 and 62·9 MHz in the interval 298–358 K. The results of the experiments are analysed within the framework of models using the empirical distributions of the correlation times. The activation energies of the internal motions of the polymer chains have been determined. The introduction of methylene bridges as part of the adamantane dicarboxylic acid raises the mobility of the polyester chain.
