The clinical pharmacology of cytotoxic drugs in gynaecology

Abstract Systemic therapy against gynaecological cancers is now firmly established. The majority of patients with gynaecological cancer will have disease which is inappropriate for cure with local therapy such as surgery or radiotherapy. Chemotherapy will increase the cure rate in a number of patients and offer useful palliation to many others. This article is concerned with stressing the importance of chemotherapy in certain situations and also identifying some of the dilemmas that still confront the clinician in the management of gynaecological cancer with systemic therapy.
